Colchester United Football Academy

As part of our high performing Sports College, Thurstable Sixth Form is incredibly proud to work in conjunction with Colchester United Football Club to offer a uniquely flexible educational programme of football coaching, match play and academic or vocational study for boys. Players are able to study a combination of A-Levels and BTEC qualifications and benefit from being students of our Sixth Form

Thurstable Sixth Form Centre has the benefit of impressive sporting facilities and staffing including a 3g Astroturf all weather pitch, gymnasium, sports halls and squash courts. 

Along with our Advanced Training Programmes (ATP) in the Sixth Form, we operate a nationally recognised Category Football Academy for 11-16 year old footballers in partnership with Colchester United Football Club. Selection for the elite players to attend the academy is made by the staff at Colchester United Football Club on the basis of aptitude in football, and those selected have the opportunity to experience a rich programme of professional training in addition to benefitting from a full education here at Thurstable. Once selected, Colchester United Football Club commits to providing transport and coaching to the students up to 16, and from there they are either taken on by the club as scholars who complete their studies at Thurstable, or join the ATP which offers football development together with a full academic or vocational education up to 19.
