Summative Assessment
At points during the year, students take summative assessments. The purpose of these are to assess the students' learning over the course of the year.
There are four main forms of summative assessment that are used within the school. These are:
Milestone Assessments
Rank Order Assessments (ROAs)
Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs)
Assessment Hours
Milestones
Who: KS3 and KS4 students.
Frequency: At the end of each half term.
Purpose: To assess knowledge using multiple-choice questions via ‘Gradecam’.
Feedback: Students get feedback on their current performance in each subject.
Subjects: The subjects assessed can vary based on curriculum needs.
Rank Order Assessments (ROAs)
Who: Only for KS3 students.
Content: Assesses knowledge and skills in all subjects.
Timing: Occurs at specific times during the school year.
Reports: Students receive detailed reports showing:
Rank in each subject.
Overall performance compared to the year group.
Areas of strength and improvement.
Goal: To provide targeted feedback to help students and parents support learning and address any gaps.
Pre-Public Exams (PPEs)
Who: KS4 and KS5 students.
Content: Assesses knowledge and skills in all KS4 subjects, mimicking the final exams in Year 11.
Timing: Occurs at specific times during the school year.
Reports: Students receive comprehensive reports with:
Grades for each subject.
Detailed feedback on strengths and areas needing improvement.
Goal: To give students and parents specific information to support learning and close gaps.
Assessment Hours
Who: Only for KS5 students.
Content: Assesses knowledge and skills in all KS5 subjects.
Timing: Occurs at strategic points throughout the year.
Feedback: Students receive a percentage score and sometimes an A-level equivalent grade, along with targeted support from teachers to address any knowledge gaps.
