LGBTQIA+ Bake Sale

On Tuesday 28 June, the LGBTQIA+ club held their first bake sale, and it was a great success! Lots of cakes were brought along to be sold, from both staff and students, with a few rainbow themed bakes of course. The students were so excited to be involved in the running of the event as well as eating some cake too, as were the staff. We are proud to say that we have raised £160 which will be donated to a local LGBTQIA+ charity – The Outhouse – based in Colchester. The most amazing thing is seeing how much happier our LGBTQIA+ students are since the club began, and the bake sale gave them a real chance to represent the club and what we stand for, which was inspiring to see.

"Tom Daley: Illegal To Be Me"

In our after school meeting, on 26th September, we watched parts of the recent documentary "Tom Daley: Illegal to be me" - which is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. We discussed the topics covered and all were generally disgusted that so many countries still have such adamant anti-LGBT laws. We recognised that we are lucky to live in a country where it is no longer illegal to be gay (or LGBTQIA+ in general), but we empathise with those who still do not feel safe to be themselves within the Commonwealth (and beyond).
