Professional Learning
At Thurstable, we are passionate about the development of all of our staff and offer a highly focused and structured approach to professional learning. We are committed to developing teachers at all stages of their career: Early Careers Teachers are provided with outstanding mentors and access to the Ambition ECT programme whilst leadership development is nurtured and there are opportunities to embark on nationally recognised professional learning qualifications, as well as take part in school-based training.
Professional learning in our school fosters a culture of growth and collaboration that means our teachers are constantly striving to improve, to quote Dylan Wiliam, “not because they aren’t good enough, but because they can be even better”. Our vision of what makes great teaching is called the “Habits for Excellence” framework and teacher learning is approached through this shared language and the development of highly effective habits. At the heart of professional learning is instructional coaching where, using the Steplab platform, coaches work closely with teachers to provide targeted feedback, helping them identify strengths and areas for growth. As teachers refine their practices, all students benefit from improved engagement and learning outcomes.
