Sweeping The Sheds

Sweeping the Sheds

As part of our mission to grow character, throughout the year each tutor group will be part of a rota to ‘sweep the sheds’.  Assisted by the Site Team and Form Tutor, students will, during afternoon tutor time, collect litter to support the school community.  All students will be provided with litter pickers to help clean the site. This will not only allow students to build a rapport with our wonderful site team but it will also allow the team to spend more time on their main work which is to improve the aesthetics and fabric of the school environment.

This is not the first time the students have encountered this idea. In my first assembly with every year group when they come to Thurstable I talk about the All Blacks. In James Kerr's book Legacy, which explores the lessons of leadership from the New Zealand All Blacks, former fly-half Andrew Mehrtens talks about the ritual of clearing up , 'sweeping the sheds', after a game and every training session: "It's an example of personal discipline, it's not expecting somebody else to do your job for you,"

If it is good enough for the All Blacks then sweeping the sheds is good enough for us!
