Year 7 Testimonies

Welcome to our Year 6 into 7 Transition Area

Transition 2025

In Year 7 new friendships are fostered, academic progress and the acquisition of new knowledge is supported and each individual character is recognised and enhanced.  Our spirit of community is essential to the Year 7 experience being happy and successful.

We work hard to provide a caring and secure bridge between Years 6 and 7, making the transition from Primary to Secondary a positive and fulfilling experience. Miss Greenwood is our transition leader and she attends many of our local primary schools to run lessons in the Thurstable way as well as taking current students from Year 7 and other years to talk through their experiences of settling into Thurstable. They are able to answer any questions that the Year 6 students may have to help them in deciding which secondary school they want to attend.

Miss Greenwood also works with other primary school year groups throughout the year so that she is a familiar face. As soon as students know they are attending Thurstable in Year 7 then Miss Greenwood goes back out to the primary school to meet all of the students again and will support the year group with their permanent Head of Year until January of Year 7.

Our formal induction programme starts with the Base Camp Thurstable Website which launches in the Summer term and provides an online induction for students to meet key staff, find their way around the school and learn more about Thurstable before they come for their Induction Day on June 26 2025.

Starting Year 7

Year 7 is both a fun and challenging year where students will develop key life skills in a community that maintains high expectations of behaviour and conduct and continually drives our core values of Aspire, Respect and Endeavour.  Transition can be a time of many changes, including:

It is vital that each child knows who to turn to if they need someone to talk to. Students are assigned a Form Tutor, who will be with them from transition day. They play a key role in the transition process and pastoral support as they see their tutees twice a day, every day. They often play the key role in the transition process and are a good first point of contact.

In addition, your child will also have a Head of Year, who is solely dedicated to the year group. They are a hugely supportive and influential staff member, an ever-visible, caring, and supportive addition that you and your child will quickly become familiar with. As a result, students have expressed feeling comfortable and happy in their learning environment, enabling them to progress and improve achievement.
