Awards System
Recognising student success, leadership and community contribution is central to our ethos of developing well rounded, mature, and confident young people. We are committed to ensuring that our students leave school having built their knowledge and grown their character; with outstanding academic outcomes, but also with the leadership qualities for a successful future. We strongly believe that the most effective reward comes from being recognised for one’s achievements and contributing in a positive way. Our rewards and leadership structure reflects our core aims.
Below are the tiers of awards students can achieve, giving recognition for effort, consistency, and outstanding contributions to school life.
Learning Commendations
Learning commendations are awarded in every lesson to recognise positive attitudes, effort, and engagement in learning.
Single Commendation
A single commendation is awarded for good effort, focus, or positive contribution during a lesson.
Double Commendation
A double commendation recognises exceptional effort, progress, or learning behaviour that exceeds expectations.
Points
Commendations earn points which contribute towards school award tiers and formal recognition.
CT (Class Teacher) Points
CT points are awarded by class teachers to recognise sustained effort, improvement, or an excellent attitude to learning over time.
Character Commendations
Character commendations are awarded daily to recognise students who demonstrate positive values such as kindness, respect, resilience, and integrity.

Students receive character commendation cards for demonstrating strong character. These can be collected and exchanged for prizes at the Praise Table each Friday.
Character Certificates
Character certificates are awarded to recognise sustained or exceptional demonstrations of positive character over time.
FTs (Once a Half Term)
FTs are awarded once each half term to recognise students who consistently model outstanding character and serve as positive role models within the school community.
Emerald Tickets
Emerald Tickets are awarded daily by staff to recognise students demonstrating positive behaviour and contributions around school.
Revamped Emerald Tickets (ET)
These tickets give students rewards such as queue jumps, prize draws, or recognition by admin, celebrating their efforts and positive impact.
Students of the Week
Each week, Heads of Year select students who have excelled in effort, behaviour, or character.
Recognition and Rewards
Winning students are celebrated in a Friday morning slideshow shared with their form. They go straight to JKE’s office for a photo, a congratulatory letter, an Emerald Ticket, chocolate, and two Friday songs.
Praise Certificates
Class teachers award three golden stickers each week for outstanding work, explaining to students why their work is exemplary. Stickers may also be placed on commendation cards.
